Hon. Ian Spechler

Administrative Law Judge, State Office of Administrative Hearings

Ian Spechler is an administrative law judge at the State Office of Administrative Hearings who primarily presides over special education cases arising under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). He also presides over a variety of other cases and serves as a mediator in state agency disputes. Ian graduated from the University of Texas in 2004 and the University of Texas School of Law in 2007. Following graduation, Ian received a Skadden Fellowship to work at Disability Rights Texas. He spent ten years there and his role involved serving as an attorney ad litem for children with disabilities in the child welfare system across the state in front of more than 100 juvenile and child welfare judges.

In addition to his role as an administrative law judge, Ian volunteers with CASA of Travis County and Meals on Wheels of Central Texas, serves on the boards of Congregation Agudas Achim and Jewish Family Service and the advisory committee of the University of Texas Schusterman Center, serves on the statewide Children’s Justice Act Task Force, and serves on any committee the Children’s Commission allows him to.
